Who lives here

Meet the residents

More than thirty native species call Pinehaven home. Here are a few you're likely to say hello to on your visit.

Our namesake

Koala

These sleepy eucalyptus specialists doze up to twenty hours a day. Watch from the boardwalk as they climb, stretch and browse fresh gum leaves.

Open range

Red Kangaroo

The largest of Australia's marsupials lounges on our open lawn. During feeding time you can watch keepers hand out their favourite pellets.

Ground dweller

Common Wombat

Sturdy, burrowing and surprisingly quick, our wombats are crowd favourites. Meet them on the twilight-habitat trail near the fern gully.

Egg-laying mammal

Short-beaked Echidna

One of the few mammals that lay eggs, echidnas snuffle for ants with a long snout. Look closely and you might catch one on the move.

Aviary

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Loud, clever and full of character, our cockatoos raise their golden crests to say hello. Join the afternoon feeding for a closer look.

Reptile house

Blue-tongued Lizard

Gentle and slow-moving, these skinks flash a startling blue tongue when surprised. A keeper favourite for close, calm encounters.

Visitor questions

How long should we set aside for a visit?

Most families spend two to three hours here, though you're welcome to stay all day. Following the full timetable of talks and feedings takes about four hours at a relaxed pace.

Can we touch or hold the koalas?

To keep our koalas calm and comfortable, visits are viewing-only from the boardwalk. Our keepers share plenty of close, respectful encounters with other animals during the day's talks.

Is there parking on site?

Yes — on-site parking sits right beside the entrance, with accessible bays near the gate. The car park rarely fills, even on weekends.

Is the sanctuary accessible?

Our main trails are flat and level, suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Accessible restrooms and seating are spread throughout the grounds.

Do we need to book ahead?

You can buy tickets at the gate any day. Booking online is handy on busy weekends and school holidays and lets you walk straight in.

Can we bring our own food?

Absolutely. There's a shaded picnic lawn for those who bring their own, plus a café serving hot meals, snacks and coffee throughout the day.
